Dial Before You Dig first Every job starts with a Dial Before You Dig enquiry. We take buried service strikes seriously — for the safety of our operators, for your project, and for the people on neighbouring properties. Existing service locations are confirmed before any mechanical trenching starts.
Right equipment for the access We use a range of equipment depending on the trench dimensions and site access — from compact excavators that fit through standard side gates to larger machines for open-site work. We won’t bring a machine that tears up the yard getting to the trench location.
Clean trench walls and correct grade A trench that collapses before the pipe goes in, or runs at the wrong grade, creates problems for your plumber or electrician. We dig accurately, check depth and grade as we go, and flag any ground conditions that could affect the installation before the pipe crew arrives.
Backfill and compaction Backfill material and compaction approach matters — different services require different bedding and overlay. We backfill in layers and compact correctly to avoid settlement that causes surface subsidence and damage to the pipe or conduit over time.
Surface reinstatement Where trenching crosses driveways, paths, or lawn areas, we reinstate the surface as part of the job. No half-finished trenches left for someone else to deal with.

FAQs
Do you handle the Dial Before You Dig process? We submit the enquiry as part of our standard process. The results come back to us and we review service locations before any mechanical work starts. If the plans show services in or near the trench path, we pot-hole (hand dig to expose) the service before machining around it.
How wide and deep do you dig? It depends on the service. Most residential plumbing trenches are 300–450mm wide and 600mm+ deep. Electrical conduit is typically 600mm minimum cover. Gas and communications have their own requirements. Your licensed contractor will specify the depth — we dig to it.
Can you trench through established gardens or near tree roots? We can, but we assess root risk first. Tree roots near a trench path require careful hand digging to avoid damaging both the tree and the service being installed. We’ll advise if this is a factor on your site.
Do you reinstate the surface after trenching? Yes — turf, gravel, concrete paths, and driveways can all be reinstated as part of the job. We quote reinstatement separately if it’s a significant scope.
Can you trench long rural runs? Yes. We regularly handle long water supply and stock trough runs on rural properties across the Hunter Region. We can trench efficiently across paddocks and rough terrain.
